This weekend I finished re-rendering my layers to accomodate the new camera move for the 2d stitched background. I also finished painting the scratch textures, so now Adam will be able to give the bot some battle scars. There is some flickering, but that will be eliminated with an ID pass of the car exterior pieces. Here is a .mov of the scratches:

I also spent time setting up for the breakdown, which will be done procedurally in houdini. The comp will play, rewind, then blow apart into the separate layers. Here is a flipbook of the animation.

I have it set up so the number of passes can be changed down the line. Also, each plane is textured with a corresponding image number that is placed in the breakdown folder. To test it, I generated a bunch of tifs with numbers counting up:
